By the time the gig finished last Saturday night, the walls of Narberth's Queen's Hall seemed to be sweating just as much as the audience, many of whom left looking like they'd just come out of the shower! They had come to see Skindred; some as fans and some probably out of curiosity, but whatever the reason, it looked like a truly great time was had by all. Within seconds of Canny, the human beatbox, appearing on stage, there was a crowd at the front and that was the way it stayed for the whole evening. Canny amazed with his vocal skills before introducing first band of the night, Milford's metal- mongers, One Room Down. They knew there was room for nothing short of a great performance and they gave it. Likewise, Just Jerry. They pulled out most of the stops, although it would have been great to see a bit more movement on stage from some members of the band! That's probably just a personal gripe because the audience responded well to both support bands who did a superb job in preparing the room for the main act. The roof nearly lifted when Skindred walked on stage and with the pa system cranked up louder than ever heard before, the headliners got under way and didn't let up for the next 80 minutes or so. Tracks such as 'Set It Off', 'Pressure' and 'Nobody', from their album, Babylon, were definite highlights. Benji Webbe's reggae vocals and toasting over Dan Pugsley's superbly driving bass and Dirty Arya's relentless drums drove the crowd wild, while Mikey's guitar screamed metal power chords to set the teeth on edge. Skindred came to show Narberth what their fusion of metal and reggae is all about. They did that alright and the audience finally did get out alive - just!
