A musical family link across the Atlantic has set up an exciting brass and voices celebration concert at St. Davids Cathedral on Friday, June 30.

Goodwick Brass Band member Ginny Muir’s sisters Julie and Susan are part of City of Gardens Chorus, a dynamic a capella (unaccompanied) chorus of 50 women from Canada who will be sharing the concert with Goodwick.

City of Gardens from Victoria British Columbia have been entertaining for 50 years, being formed in 1967, and are celebrating with a summer concert tour of Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales, including a performance at Caernarfon castle.

Ginny’s sister Julie Smith is the choir’s master director and has led them to success at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and, more recently, at the Sweet Adelines International competition at Baltimore, Maryland.

The concert at St. Davids will be a double anniversary celebration as it also marks Goodwick Brass Band’s 30 years since their reformation in 1987.

“We are looking forward to another brilliant Brass and Voices event at St. Davids,” says Goodwick’s musical director Matthew Jenkins. “This is certainly a choir with a difference, presenting terrific singing and outstanding choreography. Sharing the concert with them will be another great landmark for the band and it will be a fantastic reunion for Ginny and her sisters.”

The concert on June 30 starts at 7.30 pm and tickets at £10 and £8 are available on the door or from the West Wales Arts Centre in Fishguard (01348 873867), Goodwick Post Office (01348 872842), St. Davids Bookshop (01437 720480), Yr Hen Emporiwm Cardigan (01239 614888) and County Sports Haverfordwest (01437 763740).
