Tenby Town Council have agreed to support Tenby Round Table to assist with the staging of the annual Senior Citizens Christmas dinner for the seaside town this year.

Round Tablers were given support by the Town Council during the pandemic, when despite the event not taking place as a festive gathering indoors, members of the organisation were still able to deliver meals ‘door to door’ to people’s homes.

Chairman of the Round Table, Ed Spence has now written to the town council to see if there is any financial funding available to support the festive event.

“We have also been fortunate to have several successful fundraising events throughout the year. However, what these events have shown is is how steeply the cost of holding any form of event has risen in the current climate,” he stated.

Without outside financial support we may have to reduce the size of the event or cancel it which, we feel, would be a huge shame for the town as a whole.”

Discussing the matter at this month’s meeting of the Town Council, Cllr Dai Morgan remarked that it was nice to see plans to hold the event at the De Valence Pavilion once again.

“With the cost-of-living crisis, this sadly may be the only hot meal and company some of our senior citizens may have this year,” he said.

Cllr Paul Rapi commented that he believed that most community councils would pay for these events themselves, and even though it was good that Tenby Round Table was willing to do so much, personally, he felt that the town council should be footing the whole bill.

Councillors agreed that a donation of £3,000 be made to Tenby Round Table to assist with the staging of the annual Senior Citizens Christmas dinner.
