Senedd Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, Sam Kurtz has expressed continued frustration over what he sees as the Welsh Government's inaction on the flood risks at Carmarthen Quay, leaving local businesses vulnerable.

Mr Kurtz recently brought the matter to the attention of the newly appointed Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs, stressing his ongoing concerns about the flooding threat posed by the nearby River Towy.

Rather than addressing the issue directly, the Cabinet Secretary deferred to a response given by his predecessor, Lesley Griffiths MS, in March, prompting criticism from Mr Kurtz.

With winter approaching, commenting on this snub, Mr Kurtz said: “I am disappointed that the Cabinet Secretary has failed to thoroughly assess the flood risk at Carmarthen Quay. This area, prone to flooding from the River Towy, requires immediate attention.

“Neglecting to protect these businesses effectively has broader economic consequences, putting livelihoods at stake. As the Minister responsible, passing the buck is simply unacceptable.

“The owners and operators of businesses along the Quay deserve more than this. They are left anxiously hoping that the severe rains of previous winters won't return.”
