The annual Oakwood Schools Gymnastics Competition took place last Thursday and Friday at Tenby Leisure Centre. The event is sponsored by Oakwood Park with Sports Match funding from the Sports Council for Wales.
Over 42 schools took part in what has become an extremely popular event over the last four years.
Sue John, development manager for the Welsh Amateur Gymnastics Association (WAGA), said: "This competition has made a real difference to the profile of gymnastics with Pembrokeshire schools and you can see in the faces of the children who take part how much they enjoy it. The continued success of this competition is entirely down to the hard work of Rachel Hughes and the rest of her team at Haverfordwest Gymnastics Club and they should all be congratulated."
Rachel Hughes, WAGA development officer, said: "I'm delighted by how many entries we had for the competition this year. Gymnastics is an important sport that not only provides confidence and discipline for younger children, but also motivates and encourages them to work as part of a team.
"I would like to thank Oakwood and the Sports Council for Wales for helping to make this event possible through their generous sponsorship and the WAGA for their continued support. I would also like to thank all the coaches at Haverfordwest Gymnastics Club for all their hard work and all the schoolchildren that took part," she concluded.
