Saundersfoot's schooner has been lit-up for the past two nights, in support of Rotary’s ‘Purple for Polio’ campaign.

Today (Tuesday, October 24) is World Polio Day and Saundersfoot Rotary have arranged with Saundersfoot Harbour to light up the replica schooner in purple.

Rotary’s ‘Purple for Polio’ campaign is to draw attention to the ongoing polio vaccination efforts around the globe and represents the colour each child receives on their little finger to indicate they have been vaccinated.

Saundersfoot Rotary would like to thank the Harbour for their support again this year.

Saundersfoot Rotary will also have a stall at the Craft Market in the Regency Hall on October 24 where members of the public can learn more about polio eradication and buy a small bag of crocus corms which, if planted now, will produce purple flowers next spring.

Since the mid-1980s Rotary International’s long term objective has been to eradicate polio worldwide.

Rotary are one of six members of GPEI (Global Polio Eradication Initiative), and have donated over 2.3 billion US dollars over the years, contributing to a reduction of over 99.9% in the occurrence of polio worldwide.
