PRESIDENT Dr. John Bowen and members were pleased to welcome Clare Sunter to a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Tenby.
Clare, a sergeant in the 1284 (Tenby) Air Training Squadron, was sponsored by the club to attend the RYLA Camp, held at the Outdoor Pursuits Centre, Dolgaer, which is situated on the southern fringe of the Brecon Beacons.
With the assistance of an excellent PowerPoint presentation, she explained in great detail, the many activities - gorge and mountain walking, orienteering, caving, sailing and canoeing - variously described as " amazing", " wicked" and in one case perhaps a little daunting.
She outlined how the course members took turns to lead the group for one of the activities, in order to develop organisational and leadership skills and the new friends that she had acquired because of their close, and enjoyable involvement together, during a very challenging week.
Clare concluded by thanking the Rotary Club for giving her the opportunity to attend the course and enthusiastically intimated that "she would be available for next year."
The next RYLA Camp will take place in August 2009 and both the Rotary Club of Tenby and the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot will again be sponsoring participants. Any young person aged 16 or 17 (under 18 on August 1, 2009) residing in the local area is eligible to attend, and should contact Rotarian Bob Storey, on 01834 811254, of the Tenby Club, or Rotarian Charles Hopkinson, on 01834 813433 (evenings) of the Saundersfoot club.
