New research from YouGov's Wales Omnibus reveals that almost half (43 per cent) of Welsh adults plan to watch some of the Ryder Cup on TV.
The Ryder Cup has taken place every two years since 1927, and is the third most watched sporting event in the world.
The event is being held at Celtic Manor, Newport, and it is the first time in history that this world famous competition has come to Wales.
Sir Terry Matthews, Wales' first billionaire, spent £125 million on Celtic Manor Twenty Ten course, purpose-built to host the Ryder Cup, making another first in golf history. A further £27 million was spent by the Welsh government on 'legacy infrastructure'.
It seems Ryder Cup fever has spread to Wales, with 66 per cent of Welsh adults being proud of the fact that Wales is hosting the 2010 Ryder Cup.
Interestingly, the Welsh seem to be optimistic about Europe's hopes in the competition, with almost half (42 per cent) of Welsh adults thinking Europe will win the 2010 Ryder cup. Throughout Ryder Cup history, Europe has only managed to win the competition seven times.
A day to remember
Thanks to Golf Development Wales, 14 Tenby junior golfers and the junior committee were invited to attend the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor on Wednesday.
After a very early start, the group travelled to Newport in luxury on a Silcox coach to arrive by 10 am at the course.
Unfortunately, the weather was a bit damp, but spirits were high and all the juniors set about watching the US and European teams and vying with the large crowd for their heroes' autographs.
Along with the players, there was also a match to watch between Ian Woosnam and Gareth Edwards and Sam Torrance and Sir Ian Botham.
Prince Charles arrived to welcome everyone and too soon the day was over and the group had to travel back to Tenby.
It was a wonderful experience for all and certainly one to remember.
Ryder Cup boost for Tenby golf facilities
Tenby Golf Club has been actively involved with projects and initiatives in the run up to Wales' inaugural Ryder Cup. In particular, the Ryder Cup Legacy project.
The fantastic new short hole course and practice facilities were opened recently by the chairman of Ryder Cup Wales Ltd., Mr. John Jermaine.
These facilities have been enjoyed by members and visitors alike. They were also very well received by all the competitors in the two recent championships held at the club, the Welsh Amateur and Ladies' British Open Championship.
Tenby Golf Club has also been a big supporter of Tenovus, the official Ryder Cup charity.
In raising over £2,000 over the year, the club was able to give members a chance to win raffle tickets to attend the Ryder Cup.
In conjunction with the GUW tickets, 22 lucky members and partners will be travelling to Celtic Manor to experience the drama of the cup first hand.
No doubt, as a result of all this activity, Tenby Golf Club was once again shortlisted in the Welsh Golf Club of the Year awards, only to be pipped at the post this year by eventual winner, Royal St. Davids, Harlech.
In tribute to the Ryder Cup, the club is hosting a brand new competition this Sunday (October 2) - The Ryder Cup Challenge, Wales v Rest of the World. A full field of 72 golfers (36 a-side) will take to the course for the challenge match; Wales, skippered by club captain John Gillespie, will take on the might of the ROW, under the helm of immediate past captain and ex-England football international John Stenson.
The shotgun start at 8.30 will be followed by a full English (Welsh) breakfast and no doubt accompanied by some good natured banter!
The players will then adjourn to the lounge to enjoy the live Ryder Cup action on the large screen Sky TV.
Good luck to all involved and may the best team win!
Trefloyne at the Ryder Cup
So the Ryder Cup has come to Wales and Team Trefloyne are set up at the Celtic Manor resort ready to go.
Having such a prestigious sporting event in Wales is absolutely fantastic and to be part of it is an amazing opportunity.
The team are all set up and in their places, Tom and Sarah are promoting Trefloyne and Pembrokeshire on the Visit Wales stand to the thousands of visitors who are coming through the gates every day.
Oliver Duckett PGA head professional is with Golf Development Wales, coaching Ryder Cup players of the future.
And finally, Gareth Knight, course manager, is busy working with the 150 greenkeepers on site ensuring the course is everything 'Monty' wants it to be.
Although the rain isn't showing any sign of going away, hopefully the sun will start shining following Prince Charles' visit.
Tom Beynon said: "It's such an honour to meet the Prince of Wales and to be part of such a momentous event. Having Trefloyne represented in so many areas of the event is just fantastic."
Twelve lucky Trefloyne Juniors also had a wonderful day on Tuesday when they were given tickets to the first practice day.
All of them spent the day following the teams' first practice sessions and getting autographs from all the players and team captains.
It was a fantastic opportunity for the juniors to watch the best in golf up close and personal, at a world class golfing venue.
It will be a long time before we see the Ryder Cup in Wales again, so for this week Team Trefloyne are making the most of showcasing what Pembrokeshire has to offer.
