Members of Mind Pembrokeshire returned to the Tenby Hub this month and after a brew at Hafal, they headed off to the town’s ‘secret garden’ - Allen’s View to complete a few jobs.

Allens View is a hilltop woodland garden alongside the Pembrokeshire coast path with spectacular views. The land was gifted to the Friends of Tenby in 1965 from the land owned by Jessie Allen, of Clovers, Northcliff. The garden is open to the public and is maintained by Tenby Civic Society, successors to the Friends of Tenby.

As part of the Roots to Recovery programme, Mind Pembrokeshire were contacted to see if they had a group who might be able to help out with putting some steps in at the entrance to the garden, as well as digging a couple of drainage ditches so the rain runs off the paths instead of turning into a bog.

Members of the group who had a great time, were also tasked with putting some stakes in to support young trees and to paint a lovely teak bench to protect it from the elements.

Tom from Mind Pembrokeshire is planning on running a regular practical conservation group doing jobs like this and much more out and about in the National Park as part of Roots to Recovery on a Friday.

You can get in touch with him on 07866 771190 to find out more, and also if you would like to be involved in Tenby based Roots to Recovery activities, with newcomers very welcome.
