Rob and his companions reached the summit of Snowdon on a Friday afternoon only to find it enveloped in mist and drizzle. It was all down hill after that! The trek to the top of Scafell Pike found the intrepid climbers enduring freezing conditions with treacherous icy patches underfoot - but they reached the top at about 2 am in the morning. Worse was to come at Ben Nevis where the summit was covered in a blanket of snow but, undaunted, they marched on to the top before descending again to cross the finishing line at the foot of the mountain at 8.45 pm.
"It was tough going, in often very poor weather," said Rob, "but some 36 of the 42 participants succeeded in the challenge. The youngsters regarded me as the grandad of the party!"
Rob added: "It is likely that the final sum raised for the Meningitis Trust - a very worthy charity, which receives no government support, will be in excess of £35,000 from this weekend event."
The Meningitis Trust is an organisation which helps to educate the general public in recognising the symptoms of this serious disease and so get early treatment which is essential in combating the disease.
