ONCE again the sun shone on the Tenby RNLI Fundraising Committee as they prepared for the Annual Sea Sunday service on Tenby Harbour. This year it was decided to serve a Welsh Tea from outside Tenby Sailing Club with the ecumenical service taking place outside St. Julian’s Church.
On one of the hottest days of the year a few gazebos and parasols would have come in handy but it was a joy to celebrate Sea Sunday in the sunshine. A good crowd enjoyed the delicious tea and members of the committee worked hard to ensure that everyone was served as quickly as possible, and the welsh cakes, bara brith and Victoria sponges were enjoyed by all.
The Sea Sunday service held on the harbour outside St Julian’s Church was led by Canon Andrew Grace, and readers came from all the local churches. Canon Andrew stressed the importance of respecting the sea as well as enjoying it and paid tribute to the work of our local RNLI crew. It was a delight to have the Salvation Army band whose members soon had everyone singing in the increasing sunshine.
The local RNLI fundraising committee would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the afternoon, especially Canon Andrew and members of all the churches. It was good to see the members of different churches coming together in the sunshine
The committee would also like to thank Chris Salisbury and team for their efficient help in preparing the harbour, also Tenby Sailing Club for kindly allowing them to prepare the teas on their premises. Thanks must also go to John and Christine Moore for ensuring a bright display of RNLI flags which certainly seemed to encourage customers. Particular thanks must go to the committee members who worked so hard to keep everyone happy. It was particularly hot and humid but all kept their cool and it was a bonus to find that £340 had been raised for funds so well done to everyone concerned and to all those who supported them.
It has already been a busy season for the lifeboat, emphasising once again how important the boat and the crew are to the town. The next fundraiser will be on Thursday, August 25 when Tenby Male Choir will give a concert in aid of the RNLI at St. Mary’s Church, Tenby. All welcome.
Don’t forget the RNLI shop is open every day at the Boathouse with a great array of gifts, cards and calendars, and if you have an hour or two to spare, Doreen Mortimer is always looking for volunteers to join her loyal band of shop volunteers. There are no better views in Tenby so it is certainly a great place to work , with the occasional bonus of seeing our lifeboat launch on a mission. Call in to the shop to find out more.
