A county councillor for New Hedges has given an update to residents of a housing estate in the village, after recent investigations identified potential risks to the gable ends of homes under certain conditions.

Just over a year ago, in September during Storm Agnes, fire crews rushed to attend a premises on the Oak Grove estate at Twycross, built by Mill Bay Homes, after a section of a property collapsed unexpectedly onto a garden building as well as a car parking area on the nearby roadway - with the ward's county councillor Rhys Jordan thankful that - “fortunately, no one has been hurt in this incident.”

Giving an update a year on for residents, Cllr Jordan said on October 24: “Earlier today, I spoke with Mill Bay Homes, and they’ve provided an important update regarding the safety measures at Oak Grove following last year’s incident.

“Mill Bay Homes have assured me that your safety is their top priority, and they are working hard to ensure the security and well-being of all residents,” he continued, sharing the company’s update:

• Safety Precautions: Recent investigations have identified potential risks to the gable ends of homes under certain conditions. While these risks remain low, Mill Bay Homes are taking swift action to minimise any potential danger. Heras-style fencing will be installed around gable areas, and scaffolding may be used if necessary.

• Surveys and Remedial Work: Starting in November, they will be conducting additional surveys across the estate to assess any further risks. If any issues are identified, Mill Bay Homes will fully support homeowners with the necessary repairs or remediation work to ensure properties are safe.

• Insurance and Support: Mill Bay Homes will assist homeowners with making claims under their structural insurance should any issues arise. They have also committed to keeping you regularly updated and have set up a dedicated contact team for all enquiries.

Cllr Jordan said that anyone with any concerns or who would like to discuss matters further, should reach out to Mill Bay Homes via their dedicated email at: [email protected]

“You are welcome to cc me into any correspondence if you feel it would be helpful: [email protected],” he continued.
