A railway tunnel garden feature has been erected in the Kilgetty Community Garden by members of the Begelly, Kilgetty Community Association.

The group initially underwent a 12 day building conservation training course run by PLANED (Community Development Organisation) under the guidance of tutor Eiler Lewis, from Pembrokeshire College.

This course included an introduction to building conservation and also covered stone repair, cutting trimming and dressing, providing the group with the skills and knowledge to build the tunnel during a further five day course.

The tunnel feature is the idea of the volunteers who have been creating and tending the community garden over the last few years and is designed to reflect the heritage of the local area.

A time capsule is buried under the tunnel, holding information about the mining area and the 'Bulldog' engine, along with details of the creation of the garden.

This is just one of the courses that PLANED has been running. Many new courses are planned for the autumn, including countryside skills, DIY skills and garden maintenance so why not give them a ring to see if there is anything you would like to learn, it could even benefit your community!
