A Cresselly rider outwitted her rivals with a bold front-running ride to cause a 33-1 surprise in a horse race at Exeter last week.
Lucy Jones, who is an accountant with her own business when not racing, came first in the Dartmouth Term of '65 England Expects Amateur Riders' Novices' Hurdle.
Few seemed to give Keith Goldsworthy's 'Cresswell Ruby' a chance in the race and the field was happy to allow Lucy to steal an easy lead.
But as the furlongs went by, she was still in front and just managed to scramble over the line a neck in front of the Paul Nicholls trained 'Bump In The Night'.
"That's my first ride under rules and my first winner," said Lucy, who was once formerly a scorer for Lawrenny Cricket Club.
"She just travelled all the way. They have tried holding her up before and this was the next tactic to try," she added.
Lucy's success and the favourable odds gave her large contingent of supporters a night to remember at her local in The Cresselly Arms Creswell Quay!
Hills of Aran
top hurdler
Meanwhile, another Pembrokeshire owned horse, Hills or Aran, came up trumps again at the weekend when jockey Tony McCoy delivered a first place at the 2.50 pm race at Chepstow on Saturday.
Following the victory, the horse trained by Keith Goldsworthy has become the top-rated hurdler in Wales.
