More proactive measures need to be introduced to give warnings to motorists over a flooding black-spot on a route in and out of Tenby.
With the impact of heavy rain continually impacting areas such as Gumfreston, Heywood Lane and the Clicketts, in a concerted effort to address the longstanding flooding issues of the River Ritec, elected members of Pembrokeshire County Council, including County councillor Rhys Jordan (representing the ward of St Florence) have pushed for a long-term solution to be found.
Back in January, severe flooding left caravans at Kiln Park’s holiday site submerged in water, with the road leading to Penally, closed-off to motorists for several days.
Highlighting the importance of keeping motorists informed, in light of flood warning systems failing consistently, Cllr Jordan has raised the matter again for the community.
“My recent discussions with Cllr Rhys Sinnett, PCC’s Cabinet Member for Resident Services revisited the urgent need for improvements to the B4318 at Gumfreston, but despite previous discussions, the flood warning systems there are still not performing as required,” said Cllr Jordan.
“I have suggested a more proactive approach, proposing the implementation of a text service for residents, similar to that used for the Cleddau Bridge, to ensure timely alerts and interventions.”
