PICTURED at the opening of 'Portraits by Augustus and Gwen John', the new art exhibition at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, are Ceridwen Lloyd- Morgan, formerly head of manuscripts and visual images at the National Library of Wales and now Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Welsh at Cardiff University, and David Hughes, chairman of the museum trustees.
The exhibition, officially opened by Ceridwen Lloyd-Morgan, features work from the National Museum Wales, the National Library of Wales, private collections and the museum's own collection.
It features such well-known portraits as Dylan Thomas, Caitlin Macnamara, David Lloyd George, Mere Poussepin, Richard Hughes, Winifred John, and the extraordinary portrait of the larger than life Marchesa Luisa Caseta, as well as numerous other works of family, friends, and society members. The museum's collections manager Mark Lewis said: "We are extremely fortunate to have these works on show at the museum for this stunning exhibition.
"As Tenby was the place of their childhood, it is fitting that these pictures should be shown here and it gives the exhibition a sense of a homecoming for these two artists.
"In her speech, Ceridwen made reference to the fact that Gwen and Augustus were two prophets finding appreciation in their own land and this is very true. "Anybody with an interest in the work of the Johns should take advantage of this opportunity to see the pictures, many of which have not been seen in the public domain before."
The exhibition runs until Sunday, October 14.
