MP for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, Simon Hart has been appointed Chief Whip today as part of Rishi Sunak’s new cabinet office.

Just before 4.30 pm, Downing Street announced that Mr Hart, the former Secretary of State for Wales would take the role as part of the Prime Minister’s reshuffle.

Robert Buckland resigned today as the Secretary of State for Wales, after he was given the role earlier this year by then Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Mr Hart was Secretary of State for Wales between December 16, 2019 and July 6, 2022 - before he resigned in protest at Mr Johnson's leadership.
