Simon Hart MP has been celebrating more success with his appointment as Welsh Secretary.
Mr. Hart’s appointment, which was made last week, came following the earlier resignation of Alun Cairns, who was cleared last Friday by a Cabinet Office investigation of breaking the Ministerial Code.
Before his appointment, Mr. Hart had served as a junior minister in the cabinet office.
The member of Parliament for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire was successfully re-elected at this month’s General Election with an increased majority.
Mr. Hart retained his seat with 22,183 votes, up from the 19,771 votes that he got in the 2017 election.
As the Secretary of State for Wales, Mr. Hart will be the link between Westminster and Cardiff.
Mr. Hart will also be responsible for the overall strategic direction of the UK Government in Wales, including budgets, business and investment.
He will now be part of Prime Minister’s Boris Johnson’s 80 seat strong majority government.
A statement from Downing Street said: “The Queen has been graciously pleased to approve the appointment of Simon Hart MP as Secretary of State for Wales.
