Pembrokeshire’s Preseli Senedd Member Paul Davies has said he “will ensure that the voices of people in west Wales are heard loud and clear” after his promotion to the Welsh Conservatives’ deputy leader.

The MS has taken over as deputy leader of the Welsh Conservatives in addition to his duties as Chief Whip and Shadow Secretary for the Constitution.

Paul Davies is no stranger to senior posts in the party.

Mr Davies had been made interim leader of the party back in 2018 following the resignation of Andrew RT Davies, and was later elected leader.

Back in 2021, the MS resigned as leader of the Welsh Conservatives, following claims he and other Welsh politicians gathered and drank alcohol on Welsh Parliament premises days after a Covid era ban on serving it in pubs took effect.

Mr Davies will now serve as deputy leader to leader Darren Millar, who succeeded Andrew RT Davies (re-elected in 2021) after Mr RT Davies stood down late last year.

Paul Davies MS said: “I’m delighted to be appointed Deputy Leader of the Welsh Conservative Senedd group. I’ve worked with Darren for many years and I’m excited to work with him in this new capacity.

“As Deputy Leader I will ensure that the voices of people in west Wales are heard loud and clear.

“It’s an important time for the Senedd group as we head towards the 2026 Senedd elections. I hope to use my experience and expertise as Deputy Leader to help galvanise support across Wales and hopefully deliver a Welsh Conservative government next year,“ he added.

Mr Davies has previously apologised for the 2020 incident but said that he and his colleagues had not actually breached any Covid-19 regulations; a later 2022 report clearing him and others of any wrongdoing.
