A Plaid Cymru motion calling for Wales to receive full consequential funding from HS2 has been voted down by Labour Members of the Senedd.
Yesterday (Wednesday, March 12), Labour have voted against a Plaid Cymru motion calling for Wales to receive the full consequential from the HS2 project, estimated to be £4billion.
Plaid Cymru have accused Labour MSs of voting against fairness, and accused Labour of rowing back on Government policy.
Plaid Cymru transport spokesperson, Peredur Owen Griffiths has said that the billions of pounds that Wales should receive from HS2 would be ‘transformational’ in delivering a ‘transport system fit for the 21st century’.
Mr Owen Griffiths has accuse the Senedd Labour Group of being ‘firmly in the pockets’ of UK Labour, who fight to ‘spare Keir Starmer’s blushes’ rather than ‘fighting for Wales’.
He continued by accusing Eluned Morgan and her Labour group of taking the people of Wales for granted, and that Wales need a Government willing to buck the trend of ‘capitulating to London bosses’.
Peredur Owen Griffiths, said: “Each and every one of the Labour Members of the Senedd, all of which have previously campaigned, or at least voted, for HS2 consequentials, have voted against it today. Voted against billions of pounds in rail infrastructure cash, voted against fairness, voted against what used to be Welsh Labour and Welsh Government policy.
“Welsh railways and the broader transport network in Wales is in desperate need of maintenance and enhancement, our dated infrastructure and lacklustre services need this funding, and the people of Wales deserve a transport system fit for the 21st century. But Labour just voted against delivering this transformational amount of funding.
“The Labour Welsh Government are now firmly in the pockets of their UK colleagues. The people of Wales see through the pretence of Labour’s so-called ‘partnership in power’, seeing that it’s nothing but empty words. They will fight to spare Keir Starmer’s blushes before they fight for Wales every single time.
“The First Minister and her party is rowing back on Government policy at the expense of what is owed to Wales, continuing to take the people of Wales for granted. This is the opposite of what Wales needs in our leadership, Wales needs a Plaid Cymru Government that will buck the trend of capitulating to London bosses.”
