You could be bagging more than just your everyday groceries - is the message from local police who have stated that they will be taking a ‘zero tolerance approach’ in clamping down on illegal parking at a Saundersfoot hotspot.
The prohibited parking spot in question is outside the Tesco Express store on Brewery Terrace in the centre of the town, where motorists are frequently parking on the zig-zags.
Local police are continuing to warn motorists that they will be taking action as illegal parking in that area has been a problem for the village and local residents for some time now, with the problem now so bad that police have classified the issue as an area of action for Dyfed Powys Police’s local officers and the Roads Policing Unit.
Parking in this spot could see motorists issued with a £100 fine and three points on their licence.
Local PCSO Rachel Adams stated: “The run up to Christmas is an expensive time of year, and risking being fined £100 and having an additional 3 points on your licence for a closer parking spot seems short sighted.
“If the driver is present and spoken to by an officer, they will be reported on the spot.
“If the officer is unable to speak to the driver, a Notice of Intended Prosecution will be sent to the registered keeper of the vehicle.
“Body worn cameras will be utilised by the police service to collect evidence of the offence.”
PCSO Graham Kendall added: “We as a local policing team are taking a zero tolerance approach to this issue.
“We have received numerous complaints from local residents regarding inconsiderate parking in the area.
“There are sufficient spaces in the village without the need to place pedestrians and motorists at risk by parking in controlled areas.”
Local neighbourhood PC, Olivia Jones said that anyone parking in a controlled area will be prosecuted.
“By parking in the controlled area they are posing a risk to the pedestrians and other road users and will be prosecuted,” she said.
