Development plans for a Manorbier caravan and camping park have been given the go-ahead by members of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s planning committee this week.
An application from Damian Brown, of Seaside Inns Ltd, seeking permission to amend a condition for the erection of a clubhouse at Buttyland were discussed at a meeting of the authority’s development management committee on Wednesday morning in Pembroke Dock.
Amended plans are seeking to increase the height of the clubhouse and erect a first floor balcony at the building.
Manorbier Community Council recommended refusal for the application, stating they remained concerned about the increase in the height of the building.
A site visit from the planning committee took place last month, and member Mrs. Gwyneth Hayward told the meeting that she found this application ‘quite difficult’ to determine.
“I see a very well run caravan park and it is a very attractive place to come on holiday and contributes to the local economy, but then I am very worried about these kind of retrospective applications, where a planning condition has been flouted,” she said, referring to the removal of a hedge with a wall being put up in place.
Her colleague Clr. Phillip Kidney said that he didn’t know where they could go with this application as conditions had ‘never been adhered to’ and that the site had received more enforcement notices than he could remember.
“We have to move on with this as it can’t keep coming back to us, but I can’t support it as it is,” he commented.
When put to the vote, 10 members voted in favour of the planning officer’s recommendations to approve the application, subject to conditions, with one voting against.
A further application from Mr. Brown for the retention of 35 hardstandings and electric hook-up points; a temporary change of use of existing building as a fish and chip shop; use of portacabin as a temporary reception office, at the caravan and camping park, was unanimously approved by members of PCNPA’s committee.
