Plans by Greggs to relocate to bigger premises in Tenby have been submitted.

The bakery chain has submitted plans to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority to move from its current location in Tudor Square a little further up the High Street to the premises that was vacated by the Shoe Zone store before Christmas.

A submission from agents JMS Planning & Development acting on behalf of the applicants Greggs Plc to PCNPA stated: “Greggs currently operate from a much smaller store two doors down from this site. The intention is to relocate to a larger outlet and open as both an A1 (shop) and A3 (Café) with the proposed seating arrangements being on the 1st floor.”

Discussing the proposals at a recent meeting, Tenby Town Council’s planning committee recommended refusal for the application, with members stating that they were concerned that the introduction of another A3 use within close proximity to existing A3 facilities will have a detrimental impact on the vitality of the commercial core of the town contrary to policies 2, 54 and 55 of the LDP (Local Development Plan).

Councillors stated that they were also concerned that the proposed extraction system and hours of operation could have an adverse effect on the amenity of local residents.

Tenby Civic Society’s planning committee also raised some concerns, asking for some clarification on aspects of the plans before the proposals could be welcomed.

Members highlighted concerns over the proposed signage, stating that it took little account of the Conservation Area policy requiring proposals to improve or maintain its character.
