Plans for the expansion of a Pembrokeshire specialist composite company, which employs more than 100 people, and has contracts in the civil airline industry, have been approved.

In an application to Pembrokeshire County Council, United Aerospace Ltd, of Ferry Lane, Pembroke Dock, sought permission for the extension of its existing business through the erection of a new industrial building next to its existing site.

A supporting statement through agent Mosaic Town Planning said United Aerospace employs 112 full-time and four part-time employees at the site, which handles the design, manufacture and distribution of composite components and assemblies for use in a range of sectors.

It added: “The company has identified a clear and urgent need for a building to accommodate additional workshop space. This need has arisen due to business growth which has caused the company to outgrow its existing workshop capacity.

“The building will be sited on a gravelled area of previously developed land which was occupied by a former factory on the site. This was cleared by the Welsh Development Agency to facilitate the redevelopment of the site. The proposals will make efficient use of this area of the site and bring it back into active use.

“The design, materials, and prefabricated method of construction of the building will ensure a quick delivery and erection. This will minimise disruption to existing operations and allow the company to rapidly address its need for additional workshop space.”

The application was supported by Pembroke Dock Town Council.

United Aerospace Ltd, on its website, lists its experience: ‘Throughout our history we have had the privilege to supply many different industry sectors ranging from civil, automotive, energy, medical and aesthetics which has included manufacturing on over 20 civil airline premium interior contracts, several medical products and much more.’

The application was conditionally approved by county planners.
