Cymru Football Foundation’s Fit-For-Future Facilities Programme is supporting the development of a new 3G pitch at Tenby’s Greenhill School,

Pembrokeshire Leisure has successfully secured a £407,000 grant to replace the old astro turf pitch with a new 3G facility that will enhance the provision for both the school and community clubs.

An application for a new 3G pitch playing surface at the secondary school located on Heywood Lane was backed by members of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s development management committee last month.

The plans will see a replacement of the existing pitch surface, extended by approximately nine metres, with a replacement perimeter fence, and new LEDs in the existing lighting columns.

A supporting statement for the application (which was conditionally approved) said: ‘The current provision of the astro turf pitch is ageing (15 years+) and requires replacing in order to be maintained as a safe usable space. The refurbishment of the facility will ensure the continued outdoor all-weather provision in Tenby for both the school and the catchment community sporting clubs.

‘The transformation of the pitch from an astro turf surface to a 3G will be more beneficial for both the school and the community clubs, resulting in additional utilisation and participation levels.’

Cllr Rhys Sinnett, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services said: “This project will play a significant role in ensuring that Pembrokeshire can continue to provide first class facilities across the county.

“The collaboration led by Pembrokeshire County Council’s leisure section and incorporating the Cymru Football Foundation, Sport Wales, Greenhill School and the community clubs will provide us with a fantastic facility for everyone.”

Headteacher, Mr. David Haynes, said: “This is a tremendous boost for the school. Greenhill pupils deserve the best and I am grateful for the help we have had to get this agreed.”

The Cymru Football Foundation, supported by UK Government, is delivering the Football Association of Wales’ commitment to deliver inspirational, Fit-For-Future Facilities to enrich communities across the country.

The new pitch will be used by the school in the day and be available for the local community to use at evenings, weekends and in school holidays.
