Senedd Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Sam Kurtz has expressed concern over the recent cuts to winter fuel payments, which are leaving many older people in Wales struggling to meet the rising costs of heating their homes.
The cuts affect pensioners who do not claim Pension Credit, leaving those on lower incomes facing the difficult decision of whether they can afford to keep their homes warm as the colder months approach.
Mr Kurtz said: “It is deeply disappointing that the Welsh Labour Government have remained silent on this issue and have failed to hold their UK Labour colleagues to account. Pensioners across Wales now face a winter of anxiety and uncertainty about how they will heat their homes.
“I had the privilege of speaking with Age Cymru at the Senedd, who are doing vital work in advocating for older people who will be hit hard by these cuts.
“I encourage anyone affected by the loss of winter fuel payments to contact Age Cymru, who can offer advice on benefit entitlements and direct people to local services that may be able to help.”
Pensioners worried about the cuts are urged to call Age Cymru on 0300 303 44 98 for advice and support.
