South Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns is fighting for pensioners to get an amenities allowance this winter.
She believes that they shouldn't only get financial help towards heating bills, but should also get it towards the cost of emptying septic tanks.
"I wholeheartedly support the Winter Fuel Allowance, but I also think there should be financial support for those pensioners who are paying up to £2,000 a year to keep their tanks clear," she said.
In areas such as Llanteg and Pleasant Valley, the sewerage system is at breaking point as many homes with septic tanks have to collect and keep all their waste water as well as solids due to Environment Agency rules
"This is a hidden cost, but just as you have heating in the winter, you also have to have a working drainage system," she said.
"I have now written to the Welsh Housing Minister outlining my idea and am waiting for a reply."
