A one-of-a-kind spaceship designed in Tenby that sits in the peaceful Pembrokeshire countryside will be the focus of a staycation feature on ITV’s This Morning programme next week.

Popular presenters Alison Hammond and Josie Gibbons visited Redberth near Tenby recently, to film at Norchard Farmhouse, home of Apple Camping’s unique ‘glamping’ campsite set-up that features one ‘out of this world’ place to sleep that is structurally styled in the iconic shape of a flying saucer and located in its own crater!

The interior of the accommodation is in a contemporary style, with all colours and furnishings reflective of how you might imagine a UFO’s interior to be.

It comprises of a double bed and two singles which can also be used as sofas; with unique extras including a sky at night laser display, a dome on top for stargazing, 8 windows for a 360 degree view of the site, fully electric remote control retracting stairs and door, an escape hatch and a smoke machine which can be operated on request for the full lunar landing experience! There is also a monitor for gaming, with classic 80s games like Space Invaders.

“The UFO was created in Tenby harbour, designed sort of by me and made from moulds painstakingly made over what felt like nearly a decade by local fibreglass enthusiast Steve Hicks,” said Apple Camping owner Toby Rhys-Davies.

Initially ITV wanted to feature the site’s ‘JetStar’ accommodation which features a double bedroom in the style of a first class ships cabin, based on the world’s first ever dedicated business jet, owned by the likes of Elvis

“ITV called and were putting a feature together about staycations for the This Morning show and were sending their presenters around the UK,” continued Toby.

“The Jetstar was the inspiration for the feature, but when they called I’d had a busy day and declined, but they got back to me the next day and said they really wanted Apple Camping on the show.

“I explained that the Jetstar had gained plenty of publicity, but if they wanted to feature The Pacman, Witches Hat, UFO or one of my other accommodations I could be persuaded, and the producer said ‘What! You have got a UFO?’ and the top brass loved it too!”

This Morning’s ‘Josie and Alison’s staycation showdown’ feature has already begun and goes out on Monday mornings on the show after 10 am, featuring two unique places to stay in a light hearted competition.

“The UFO is up against The conker, the design of which I love but I did say - well there is no competition...what are you going to do throw the conker at the UFO?!” added Toby, who said that the BBC have also been on site too recently filming an extra snippet for the Escape To The Country programme, which will be broadcast next year.

Apple Camping’s UFO will feature on This Morning on Monday (October 12).
