Member of the Senedd Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, Samuel Kurtz has responded to the latest provisional local government settlement figures issued by the Welsh Labour Government.

The figures reveal differing percentage increases across regions, prompting concerns that rural communities are being overlooked in favour of urban centres.

Pembrokeshire is set to receive a 3.6% rise, while Carmarthenshire will see a 4.1% rise. In comparison, Newport and Cardiff are set to benefit from more substantial increases of 5.6% and 5.3%, respectively.

“Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire county councils are asked to do more and more. It’s only right that they are supported correctly to deliver those services. Sadly, this provisional settlement falls well short of what is required,” he said.
