Pembrokeshire Hockey Club 2 Cardiff HC 1
Having won their first two league games, 4-2 against Neath and 8-1 against Whitchurch and drawing away to Abergavenny 2-2 last weekend, Pembrokeshire 1st XI continued their unbeaten run with a win against a very experienced Cardiff team which boasted two ex-international players. Pembrokeshire pressured the Cardiff half from the start and should have turned around at the interval several goals up, however it was only to be the one from Grant Cole that gave Pembs. the lead. The second half was a repeat of the first, with Cardiff unable to break down the Pembs. midfield and defence. Pembrokeshire's second goal came when Bernie Wheeler put away a short corner routine.
An experienced Cardiff team were always going to present a problem and from one of their two short corners of the game Steve Sparkes (the current Welsh Over 50s international captain) struck home a fine shot to see the game finish at 2-1. Team: Dave Miller (GK), M. Mumford, A. Pearson, D. Hunter, C. Livingstone, R. Woods, B. Wheeler, S. Kendrick (capt.), M. Rackowe, G. Cole, T. Colley, O. Johnson.
Umpires: Jane Wheeler. Sean McCarthy. Pembrokeshire 1st XI are away to Penarth this weekend.

Junior hockey
Pembroke Ladies Under 15s travelled to face Haverfordwest Under 15s in the first league fixture in the new Pembrokeshire Under 15s League. Due to prior commitments by some of the Pembroke Under 15s squad, Pembroke, playing with only seven players (six outfield players), knew that they had a mammoth task on their hands when facing an excellent and well organised Haverfordwest side. Although Haverfordwest totally dominated, controlled and ran out easy winners of this fixture, Pembroke's magnificent seven won the game on team spirit, work rate and determination. Emily Morris, playing in goal for the first time, was outstanding as was the mid-field of Jessica Lawrence, Kate Roberts, Libby Roberts and Harriet Newman, who gave everything during this game. Kirstyn Rogers and Carys Wilkes, playing in the defence for Pembroke, defended like their lives depended on it. These seven girls were certainly the 'Magnificent Seven.'
Training for the Under 15s is held every Thursday, 6 to 7 pm at the astroturf, Pembroke, so if you fancy playing league and cup hockey on a regular basis, then go along and join in the fun!
