On a visit to Tenby on St David’s Day, Pembrokeshire County Council Chief Executive, had the chance to check in on some successful projects for the seaside town.

Having attended a meeting at the Harbour, to meet with staff concerned over operational issues due to high levels of sandbanks causing disruption for boats, the Local Authority’s CEO Will Bramble then visited three success projects for the town accompanied by Tenby’s Mayor and County Councillor for the South ward Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall.

First up it was a trip to the De Valence Pavilion on Upper Frog Street where Mr. Bramble met with the entertainment venue’s manager Dave Jones.

Dave explained the background of the building and how it had been transformed over a period of time, thanks to a complete redecoration, with the building now boasting state-of-the-art lighting and sound.

With retractable upper tiered seating, the venue is now able to seat 400, with up to 700 for some events. Dave discussed forthcoming line-ups with Mr. Bramble who said that he was looking forward to visiting to see a performance some time.

Next up, PCC’s CEO popped along to the award winning ‘edible community garden’ situated at Sutton Street.

He heard about the success in getting volunteers to help with Tenby’s gardens, with now nearly a third of gardens supported with permanent volunteers and more people being recruited all the time.

Cllr Skyrme-Blackhall then showed Mr. Bramble the Old Chapel on Lower Frog Street, where he met with Ian Rees who explained about their work, before giving a tour of the building.

The premises houses a range of services including - the Community Fridge, PATCH support work, and a training kitchen.

With hot food and drinks available every day, the Old Chapel has become a popular venue and meeting place for many.

“I was pleased to be able to show the Chief Executive some of the excellent things happening in Tenby that provide support to our community,” said Tenby’s Mayor.

“What is so encouraging is how much of this work is led by volunteers and others working to support their own community.”

Mr. Bramble remarked: “I was very impressed to see the work being done in Tenby and to tour the excellent De Valence Pavilion Venue. I look forward to further visits both professionally and socially.”
