Pembrokeshire Council has reminded private landowners that they have a duty, under the Highways Act, to manage trees on their land that may impact on the public highway - following the Storm Darragh disruption.

Following Storm Darragh at the weekend the Local Authority has undertaken extensive tree clearing to ensure the highway network is free from obstructions.

“However, in some locations, we have had to leave the tree arising’s on the verges, we are requesting that landowners review and remove these from the highway,” said a spokesperson for PCC.

“As well as clearing the public highway, crews have identified trees on private land that could impact on the highway and therefore require attention.

“Private landowners have a duty, under the Highways Act, to manage trees on their land that may impact on the public highway.

“In order to assist with this issue the Council is requesting that private landowners check their trees for any storm damage and take appropriate action.

“The Council advises that an arborist or qualified person is used to assess trees and review safe felling operations and ensure consents are in place to remove any identified trees,” they added.
