When Debbie Roberts of Pembrokeshire met Chris Roberts they bonded over their love of Wrexham FC owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - so much so that they tied the knot with a football inspired wedding.
When Debbie Roberts, 39, met Chris Roberts, 36, on Tinder they bonded over their love of the club now owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Thrity-nine-year-old Debbie was battling vaginal and vulvar cancer at the time she met thirty-six-year-old Chris, who supported her as she underwent chemotherapy.
They got engaged in Venice just seven months after they met, and got married last month in a Wrexham AFC themed wedding.
They had their photos taken in the team's ground - Wrexham's Racecourse Stadium - and booked the Wynnstay Arms, just minutes away, for their reception.
It was decked out with red and white decorations - the team colours - and their four-tier wedding cake and matching cupcakes carried the club's badge.
A Wrexham welcome sign greeted guests and each table was named after a legendary player, with Debbie wearing a red cardigan on top of her ivory bridal gown.
Mum-of-four Debbie, a masters student, from Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, said: "When we first spoke, we bonded over football - and it went from there.
"The hardest thing ever was to tell Chris that I liked him and that I'm ill.
"But he was absolutely fine about it - I told him he can walk away if it gets too much, but he never has.
"So, I really wanted our wedding to be special for him - it was about leaving behind memories for him and all our friends and family.
"I wanted it to be perfect - you get a vision of what you want something to be like.
"We got exactly what we wanted, and so much more.
"A traditional wedding would have been boring for us - we're not like other people.
"Our home is full of football memorabilia, so it was an obvious choice for us!"
Debbie grew up in Haverfordwest but with strong family ties to Wrexham.
A lifelong Wrexham AFC fan, when she set herself up an online dating profile, the club featured heavily.
It didn't take her long to stumble across Chris' profile - because he was also a huge fan.
Chris' mum, Janet, 57, worked at the Racecourse Stadium when Chris was young, so he grew up attending games.
They got chatting in May 2022 and they only dated a short while when Debbie revealed she had cancer
She had been diagnosed five years ago in February 2018 - with the disease initially found in her womb, but it spread to her cervix and tubes.
Two years ago, Debbie, a master's student in criminology and criminal justice, had a hysterectomy and since has been having chemo and radiotherapy.
Currently Debbie is between rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and her condition is being managed to stop further spread.
Debbie said: "I was on chemo at the time I told Chris, but he was absolutely fine about it."
Chris from Wrexham proposed in December 2022
They got a date set for July 8 this year, and Debbie was determined to make it perfect for Chris "in case the worst happens" - her condition worsened.
She added: "It was perfect. I wouldn't have changed a thing."
Chris said: "My expectations were just for everyone to turn up and enjoy the day and be happy - in that sense, the day couldn’t have gone any better.
"You normally get your simple traditional weddings, but we decided to do something different.
"We'd do it again exactly the same!"
