The first skateboarding competition to be held in Pembroke Dock skate park will be held a week on Sunday, June 12.

The competition is the first event of this year’s Pembroke Dock Midsummer Festival and has been organised by local skateboarder and photographer, Owen Howells.

Owen has been involved in the Pembrokeshire skateboarding scene for over 15 years, and some of the older skateboarders around the county might remember the local skateboarding videos he made as a teenager - Beats and Pieces and Don’t Walk.

Owen is hoping to attract some of the counties best skateboarders to the event - both amateur and professional. All abilities are welcome, and everyone that enters will get a chance to take part.

The competition will begin at 11 am and will include heats, finals in each age category (under 12, under 16, over 16 and veterans (30+) and a best trick round at the end. Prizes are being provided by The Underground Surf and Skate shop in Tenby, and Oakwood Theme Park. Spectators are welcome.

Green Kettle Café will be at the event with a hot food BBQ and soft drinks, and there will also be hot drinks from The Bean and an ice-cream van.

Registration forms are available from Pembroke Dock Town Council ([email protected]) or people can register on the day between 10 and 11 am. Entry is free for under 16s. For entrants aged 16 and over, there is a £2 entry fee, which will be used for bonus cash prize for the winners in the over 16s and veterans (30+) categories.

Pembroke Dock Midsummer Festival runs from Sunday, June 12, to Saturday, June 18, this year. A variety of events are planned for the week, and the festival finale will be the popular Fun in the Park event in the Memorial Park next to the Community School on Saturday, June 18.
