Pembroke Dock now has a Men's Shed! We reached this milestone last week and held a meeting at Building 47 in the Dockyard. We planned a work schedule for altering the inside of the building, with one room to be set up as a multi-purpose workshop, another as a quiet area and of course a kitchen to prepare essential cups of tea. A Men's Shed is a dedicated, friendly and welcoming meeting place where men come together and undertake a variety of mutually agreed activities. Men's Sheds are open to all men regardless of age, background or ability. It is a place where you can share your skills and knowledge with others, learn new skills and develop your old skills. Many will remember Building 47 as the security gatehouse to the Dockyard at the end of Fort Road and we are grateful to Milford Haven Port Authority for leasing the building to us, checking out the electrics and installing new heaters. We are also grateful to Encompass Community Hub in Dimond Street for being so helpful in providing a meeting place for us and to PLANED and Communities First for their encouragement. We are one of the first Men's Sheds in Wales, but the movement started in Australia and is now well established in many countries worldwide. These are early days in Pembroke Dock, but once we have a working building, we'll let people know what's going on and how to join us. Activities will reflect the interests of members, so watch this space. We are seeking funding to support this exciting project and would appreciate offers of financial help or any surplus workshop tools.
