Angle lifeboat station opens its door to the public on Sunday (May 27), offering the opportunity to see the all-weather and inshore lifeboats, tour the boathouse with its spectacular views over the Milford Haven Waterway, and meet crew members. The open day runs from 1 to 4 pm and will feature an RNLI souvenir stall, refreshments and home- made teas and a raffle. Visitors will have the chance to board the station's Tyne class lifeboat, The Lady Rank, which next year will be replaced by a new Tamar Class lifeboat. The appeal to raise £1 million towards the £2.5 million cost of the new lifeboat is well underway. The appeal is based in Birmingham, which has strong links with Angle ever since the English city donated a slipway launched lifeboat to the village in the 1900s. In contrast to the massive West Midlands conurbation, Angle's population is less than 400. Of these, 36 are RNLI crew members or otherwise involved with the lifeboat station. Angle's Tamar will be the second of the class to be allocated to Pembrokeshire. The first in the UK is already in service at Tenby, and the county's third Tamar will go to St. Davids in 2012.
