Dr Huw Roberts passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 20.

Huw was originally from Bethesda, North Wales. A keen footballer and avid supporter of Manchester United, as a young man Huw played professionally for Bangor Town.

Despite his passion for football, Huw fulfilled his ambition of becoming a doctor and went to study medicine at King’s College, London in 1967. He was the first from his Welsh speaking school to go on to study medicine.

During his time at medical school Huw managed to find time to continue playing football. He played for King’s College and captained the United Hospitals team.

He qualified as a doctor in 1973. During his time studying in London he met his wife, Linda.

After their first daughter, Kate, was born in 1978, Huw and Linda decided to move out of London and live by the sea. Huw joined Tenby Surgery on October 1, 1978 and settled in St Florence.

His second and third daughters, Laura and Sophie, were born in 1980 and 1985. Huw got stuck in to community life – joining Round Table, playing football for Saundersfoot and learning to sail. Once into his fifties, Huw turned his hand to golf. He was a member of Tenby Golf Club for over twenty years.

Huw retired as a GP in 2011 which enabled him to travel, play more golf and enjoy the Pembrokeshire coastline. It also meant he could spend more time with his grandchildren.

As well as being a sportsman, Huw loved music, especially opera, the theatre, literature and art. Retirement enabled him to go to Cardiff, London and further afield to see various opera and theatre productions.

Huw always had a huge amount of energy whether that be for sport, his family, his work or for learning something new. He cared deeply about family, patients and friends. He was fascinated by people and hugely empathetic.

The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium with a memorial service being held at Tenby Golf Club on Friday, November 5. The funeral and memorial service was conducted by celebrant, Mike Ashbridge.

Tributes to Huw were given by Dr John Griffiths; Dr Martin Mitchell; his three daughters, Kate, Laura and Sophie; his wife, Linda; Dr Paul Dubbins; Dr John Bowen; Graham Fry; Tim Rowe; Charles Dredge; and John Gillespie.

Huw will be sorely missed by his wife, Linda; three daughters; two sons-in-law, Nav and Dan; and five grandchildren, Josh, Hari, Dylan, Iori and Anwen. He leaves a huge hole in their lives.
