Lisa Mary Griffiths

A large gathering of family, friends, colleagues and the community joined together at St. Mary’s Church, Tenby, and Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth, on Friday, June 9, for a service of celebration for the life of Lisa Mary Griffiths, conducted compassionately by the Rev. John Morgan. Lisa, aged 53, passed away on Sunday, May 28, following a short and brave battle with cancer.

Lisa touched the lives of many people in very special and different ways and will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by those who knew her. She was a loving and devoted mum to Daniel and Rhianne, and she shared a long and unbroken love with her husband Shaun. Lisa was a loving daughter to John and Joyce Ormond; sister to David, Sara and Tony; aunty and great-aunty to all of her nephews and nieces; a granddaughter; and her bond extended out to her uncles, aunties, cousins and godparents.

Through her marriage to Shaun, Lisa became a cherished daughter-in-law to David and Myrna and sister-in-law to Mario, Tina, Jayne, Andrea, Nigel and Michaela and she adopted fondly Keith and Carole into her family. Outside of her family, her friendship reached many others where she lived, studied and worked in Tenby, Surrey and Bristol, and across the world through social media groups.

Lisa was born at Rowston Farm, New Hedges, on September 11, 1963, and lived there with her family for 19 years. She was educated at Tenby Infants and Primary schools and successfully completed O-Levels, AS-Levels and A-Levels at Greenhill School, Tenby, where she was elected deputy head girl and played hockey for the school and county teams. Lisa left New Hedges in September 1982 with Shaun to live in Kingston-Upon-Thames, where she trained and qualified as a registered general nurse at Kingston Hospital.

On March 30, 1985, Lisa and Shaun were married at Kingston-Upon-Thames, where they continued to live, work and study until they moved to Bristol in 1988, Lisa taking up a post as a cardiac intensive care nurse at Bristol Royal Infirmary Hospital. In Bristol, Lisa gave birth to Daniel and Rhianne, making Lisa and Shaun delighted and proud parents. While raising Daniel and Rhianne with Shaun, Lisa continued to work part-time as a nurse in hospitals and nursing homes in the Bristol and Bath area.

In August 1996, Lisa returned to Tenby to live with Shaun, Daniel and Rhianne and once again Lisa continued to work part-time as a nurse and successfully completed two degrees with the Open University in nursing care and management. Her heart was in the care profession, and she worked part-time as a nurse at Park House Court Nursing Home, and for a short period at Tenby Cottage Hospital and Pembrokeshire County Council. In more recent years, she worked for Care In Hand, as the trainer for their nurses and carers and then latterly the company’s business manager. Lisa also established her own training company to provide training to nurses and carers in nursing and residential homes locally. Lisa was passionate about learning and imparting her knowledge and experience on others, she also loved reading, watching television and YouTube, listening to music, going to music concerts and was keenly interested in the lives of others, both real and fictional.

The family house in Upper Hill Park, Tenby, became the regular meeting and dressing point for Daniel’s and Rhianne’s friends before going into town on their nights out. Lisa, or Mummy Lisa as she was affectionately known to the friends, would give advice on dress code and behaviour, and listen with interest to the stories the friends were sharing with her and each other. As the groups of friends were leaving the house, Lisa’s ritual was to say to them ‘phones, wallets, keys, ID’s’ and expect the ‘yes’ response.

Lisa enjoyed occasionally visiting places locally on days out with Shaun, Daniel and Rhianne when they were growing up and returning to visit from living away, and the places where Daniel and Rhianne were studying in university and working in their careers. Lisa travelled abroad to Switzerland and Minnesota, USA, when she was studying in Greenhill. Lisa and Shaun honeymooned in Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia, and skied in Andorra. Lisa, Shaun, Daniel and Rhianne made camping trips to France (the Loire and Dordogne) and Lisa and Shaun holidayed alongside the school orchestra tours in Tuscany and Barcelona. Lisa loved Rome, visiting the city three times with Shaun and they took a trip to Naples.

Lisa was lovingly proud of Daniel, Rhianne and Shaun in everything they did and achieved, sharing their successes at school, university, in their work and their sporting endeavours and achievements and generally in their life pathways; she will continue to be with them in spirit and memory in everything that they continue to do. Lisa was a true inspiration and a very strong person, loved and admired by many and she will remain in our hearts and minds always.

Shaun, Daniel, Rhianne and family express their sincere and heartfelt thanks for all the sympathy, kindness and support shown to them in their bereavement and wish to thank the medical, ambulance and care teams in Tenby, and in Prince Philip, Withybush and Glangwili Hospitals for supporting Lisa during her fight with cancer.

Donations in lieu of flowers, if desired, for Breast Cancer Care may be made on line via just giving, www.justgiving.com/Lisa-Griffiths63, alternatively directed to funeral directors, W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons Ltd, the Norton, Tenby.
