Charlie Shivers was on duty again this week, this time meeting the family of Dai Rees, who sadly died following a diving accident in the Maldives in March 2014.

Although Dai was from Saundersfoot, he later became a paramedic with the South Western Ambulance Trust. He set-up the Maldivian Sihhath Initiative after finding out the islanders barely had any first aid provision. The initiative provided training and equipment to populated areas.

On behalf of Saundersfoot New Year’s Day Swim and Tees ‘R’ Us, Charlie donated 100 t-shirts which will be sold off and all proceeds from sales of the ‘DRF’ t-shirt will support the work of the Dai Rees Foundation, a registered charity set-up to continue the legacy of Dai.

In 2017, a team of paramedics from the DRF will be partnering with Community Action Nepal to deliver emergency medical training and equipment to remote and rural locations in Nepal.

The Dai Rees Foundation and Dai’s family are hugely grateful to the NYD Swim and Tees ‘R’ Us for their support. If you would like to purchase a t-shirt, please call (01834) 813785 or visit Elements of Pembrokeshire, The Strand, Saundersfoot.

Martyn Williams, chairman of the NYDS, said: “We are delighted to be making this donation. Hopefully the money raised will help support the excellent work which the Dai Rees Foundation is carrying out.”
