GOVERNMENT
IN ACTION
Today, our Year 12 students will be dressing for the office as they come to school to take part in the Local Government in Action Day. Visiting the school will be Pembrokeshire County Council's chief executive, directors and councillors who will discuss their roles and responsibilities with the students. Then, the students will be divided into groups and given an imaginary scenario, based on a realistic occurrence, to address and respond to, utilising imaginary budgets and their respective roles.
The decisions that local government officers and councillors are involved in affect the lives of many people. Today, our Year 12 students will find out exactly what this is like. It will also provide the students with an opportunity to demonstrate and develop essential key skills, like communication, problem-solving, working with others, numeracy and improving their own learning and performance.
YR ADRAN CYMRAEG/THE WELSH DEPARTMENT
Bingo Bach: Students studying Welsh at A level spent an enjoyable evening at an Arad Goch theatre production, Bingo Bach.
Nant Gwrtheyrn: A number of Year 11 students spent a long weekend at the National Centre in Nant Gwrtheyrn, North Wales. They took advantage of every opportunity possible to use and improve their spoken Welsh in an informal atmosphere. They also visited Llechwedd slate mines, Portmeirion and Rhiw Goch Ski Centre.
Drama workshop: A drama workshop took place in the school's drama studio yesterday (Thursday), involving students from Years 10 and 11. The purpose of the workshop was to present ideas for next year's National Eisteddfod in St. David's.
HOCKEY
On Thursday, October 4, the Year 11 hockey team successfully won their second game of the season away against Milford Haven Comprehensive School. The final score was 2-1, with goals scored by Sally Maher and Miriam Brown. Because of our usual goalkeeper's absence, Jenni Edwards stepped in to save the day. Captained by Hannah Mackay, the team was Kelly-Marie Williams, Sally Maher, Samantha Nicholas, Miriam Brown, Sarah Cooper, Lucy Medwell, Imelde Rossi, Jenni Edwards, Amanda Owen and Wendy Lewis.
NETBALL
The netball teams also played Milford Haven School on October 4. Here are their reports.
Year 8: Ysgol Greenhill School Year 8 netball team truly deserved their 16-3 win, the whole team playing with commitment and true grit. The goals were scored by the two shooters, Sarah Davies and Liz Nicholas, who depended on the help of centre Teresa Keight, goal defence Claudia Hinchliffe, goalkeeper Nicola Jackson, wing defence Alex Merchant, wing attack Emilie Osborne, as well as Sophie Merriman as reserve wing attack, Kelly Jo Andrews as reserve goalkeeper and Lydia May as reserve wing defence.
For some players, this was their first game this year, and they played really well as a team. We have now beaten St. David's and Milford Haven and we hope to succeed in future games.
Year 9: Captained by Stephanie James, the Year 9 team was Libby Roberts, Phoebe Osborne, Chloe Laing, Rebecca Simpson, Jessica Froment and Kelly Furlong. Goals were scored by Stephanie James and Jess Froment and Kelly Furlong was voted player of the match. The entire team played exceptionally well and won play in the second half, but the final score was 17-13 to Milford Haven. Better luck next time.
Year 10: Jemma Owen was captain against Milford's Year 10 team. The team comprised Kelly Furlong, Gillian Sadler, Sam Nixon, Debbie Nicholas, Amy John and Jessica Ormonde. Goals were scored by Jemma and Jess, and Debbie was nominated player of the match. This proved to be a hard game, and the final score reflected this, Milford Haven winning 12-5.

FOOTBALL
We played Milford Haven School last Friday in the Schools Under 19s Football Cup. Despite dominating possession of the ball for the majority of the game, we found ourselves 2-1 down at the final whistle. A surprising result for a hard-fought game.
Our Year 7 team went through to the next round of the Welsh Under 12s Cup by beating Whitland in a very exciting match on penalties. What a thriller that was!
Congratulations to Matthew Skeels who represents Dyfed tonight.

CAREERS TRIP
Choosing a career must be one of the most difficult decisions students have to take, and to help this process along, students from Year 12 and 10 visited the Cardiff International Arena for 'Jobscene', a careers fair on Friday, October 5.
Representatives from the Armed Forces, Police, Fire, banks and other professions were on hand to offer valuable advice and information to visitors, which proved very useful.
Everybody who attended found it an extremely worthwhile visit, and no doubt benefited from the information they were given.
JEANS FOR GENES
A fantastic total of £708.85 was raised in school last Friday for the annual 'Jeans for Genes' Appeal. Each student could pay £1 for the privilege of wearing denims to school, and this proved a popular sartorial decision. At lunch-time, a Jeanius Quiz was held in the library, consisting of teams of four students. Over 19 teams entered, and a great deal of fun was had by all.
Here are the winners of the quiz: 1. Hannah, Kate and Crew; joint 2. Super Psychotic Monkeys (Rory Crew, William Pudsey and Tom Smith), Men Behaving Badley (Jo Llama, Owen Renault, Tom Edwards and James Saunders); 3. The Ladykillers (Matthew Birch, Dan Cope, Matthew McGivern and Dean Hamilton).
The Upper School Genetics Crossword proved a challenging test, but three sixth forms came joint first: 12VP, 12GJM and 12NAR.
Congratulations also to the office and Mrs. Renault, who also achieved top marks in this test!
Mrs. Bell would like to thank all the students and staff for supporting such a worthwhile venture, and for so wholeheartedly getting involved with all the activities going on.
