Dr Chris Martin - a recognised face across many Pembrokeshire sectors, has been awarded an OBE in The King’s New Years Honours list for his distinguished service.
“It is with enormous pride and happy hearts that we share the news that Dr Chris Martin, a former Chair of The Port of Milford Haven and a native of Pembrokeshire, has been awarded an OBE in The King’s New Years Honours list for his distinguished service to the Maritime and Ports Sector,” said a spokesperson for the Milford Haven Port Authority.
Chris from Haverfordwest, played a leading role at the Port of Milford Haven for 13 years, seven of which were as Chair.
He led the Port through a significant period of change and diversification, and he was a standard bearer and advocate for Milford Haven, for the Region, and for Wales.
Chris’ contribution extended well beyond the Port of Milford Haven through his leadership in a range of guises - as Deputy Lieutenant, as Chair of Life Sciences Hub Wales; as Trustee of Marie Curie UK; as Governor at Pembrokeshire College; as Co-Chair of the Bevan Commission; and as Vice Chair of St John Ambulance Cymru, his portfolio was broad and far reaching.
“This is an extraordinarily proud moment for our Port, for Chris and for his family. Congratulations Chris, and we thank you for your selfless service,” they added.
Also among the recipients in the New Years Honours List is Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist Emma Finucane from Carmarthenshire, awarded an MBE for services to cycling.
During the 2024 Paris Olympics, 21-year-old Emma, won gold as part of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland's women’s track cycling team sprint, before claiming the bronze medal in the keirin and sprint disciplines.
Emma was the first British woman to win three medals at a single Olympic games since 1964.
