Improvements to Tenby’s South Parade and a long touted lighting scheme to illuminate the resort’s historical town walls could be two matters on the agenda for local councillors to consider in the New Year.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby town council, Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown told her colleagues that it would be beneficial to set up a separate meeting on matters concerning the South Parade in 2020.

She said that previous discussions with Pembrokeshire County Council’s regeneration manager Sinead Henehan had led to talk of a ‘feasibility study’ towards a proposed project to illuminate the town walls and enhance the South Parade area, but that some of the costings mentioned were ‘ridiculous’.

Clr. Mrs. Brown also said that the town’s regeneration committee seemed to have dissolved as it hadn’t met for a while.

“PCC are not going to move off their backsides on this until we do something ourselves!” she told her colleagues.

“I believe we can get grant funding to light the town walls - we don’t need to do it all in one go along the South Parade, we can seek three different prices to see what they can offer. I think this is the best way forward,” she added.

The town clerk Andrew Davies told members that he had emailed PCC’s cabinet member for planning and infrastructure, Clr. Phil Baker; head of infrastructure, Darren Thomas; and head of environmental Services and public protection, Richard Brown on the matter, but was awaiting a response back.
