A number of significant developments have occurred at the new Tenby Cottage Hospital this week. Over a period of 18 months, a small group of TCH Local Implementation Group members, under the leadership of Jenny Bowen and Roy Haggar, has been researching photographs and poems of early Tenby. This has been completed and this week Roy was responsible for effectively mounting them in the entrance hall. As well as a photograph of the original hospital's founder, Dr. Lock, there are displays of Tenby as an old fishing port and Tenby as an early holiday resort. It is a fitting link to old Tenby and our community to which this hospital belongs. Many thanks go to Roy for his efforts in researching these interesting documents from the museum. When passing the hospital, please take time to pop in and view them. On a practical note, of major importance is the opening of the Day Care Unit. This is an enhancement of the old service, with clients now having health and social services on one site at the hospital. It is a modern approach that supports people close to their own homes in the community. Social Services customer care manager Sue Thomson stated: "There will be personal support to enable people to develop their full potential, maximising their independence and encouraging them to carry out the normal activities of daily living. This will be carried out in a warm, friendly and professional environment, which will enable people to achieve independence, both physically and emotionally. "At the same time, the social services will work closely with health colleagues so that advice, treatment and care will be based on a genuine partnership between the client and the multi- disciplinary team." As the photograph shows, clients of the new service are happy with their new base. Mrs. Skyrme Phillips said: "It's wonderful, we are really enjoying it. The atmosphere is great and the food is good." Mr. Denning thought that it was "first class so far."
