To be held over the triangular left-handed Erw Lon course, located between Llandysul and Pencader, followers of point to point racing anticipate the ultimate excitement when the new season of local horse racing begins tomorrow (Saturday, January 31).
The organisers, the Vale of Clettwr Hunt, have been somewhat unfortunate in recent years in having to cancel due to a variety of circumstances but joint secretaries, Alun and Pat Lewis, remain optimistic of an excellent turnout this time of chasers and supporters.
Alun says that at the two meetings last year some really top class racing and a number of very close finishes delighted the crowds.
"The mainly flat galloping course, on mountain grazing land, is looking very good and we already have all the fences up and are ready to go," he says.
The first of probably eight races to feature on the card is due off at 12 noon and, because the best viewing points are from the centre of the course, supporters are urged to arrive in plenty of time.
The West Wales season continues with the Carmarthenshire Hunt meeting at the same venue on Saturday, February 21, to be followed by the Tivyside and Llandeilo Farmers fixtures on Saturday, March 14, and Saturday, April 4 - both at Cilwendeg, Boncath; the South Pembrokeshire at Lydstep on Easter Monday, April 13; the Banwen Miners at Pentreclwydau, Glynneath on May Day Bank Holiday, Monday, May 4; and the Pembrokeshire Hunt event at Trecoed, near Fishguard on Saturday, June 6.
