On Friday, June 14 the 42nd Charter Dinner of the Tenby and District Lions Club was held at the Giltar Hotel and well known local businessman Nick Stapleton was installed as Lion President for the next 12 months.

Outgoing President Robert Mayhew, in his toast to the Lions, listed some of their accomplishments over the last year including the Diabetes Awareness Day, the improvements to the Environment on Caldey Island and around the town at the Green and the Tenby Cemetery entrance. Donations were also given to Child Cancer Units and to Lions Clubs International projects for the relief of poverty and to reduce blindness in Third World countries.

In the last 12 months the Tenby and District Lions made donations to the local community totalling over £5, 225 in response to requests for assistance.

These included - Tenby Day Care Centre, a Specially Adapted Wheelchair for a young girl, Saundersfoot Senior Citizens and Augustus Place Christmas Dinners, Harriet – Davis Trust, Gateway Club, Kilgetty Golden Years, Saundersfoot Historical Society and the purchase of a Defibrillator which is placed near the South Beach.

The proceeds from the Easter Egg Raffle will be going to Paul Sartori and Ty Hafan Charities.

Before handing over his Chain of Office the President presented Certificates of Appreciation to Charter Member Ray Harrison, Nigel Skipper and to Pat Jenkins, Joint Manager of the Giltar Hotel.

President Robert thanked the Lions for their support during the past year and hoped they would continue to give their wholehearted support to the incoming President.

The chief guests at the Charter Dinner were the District Governor, Sally Marsh from Bristol, her husband Colin who is District Officer for Young People, The Mayor Of Tenby, Councillor Tony Brown, Zone Chairman Ben Pula Manluctao and members of Aberystwyth and Ammanford Lions Clubs, former members of Haverfordwest Lions Club which has closed and the President of Tenby Rotary Club, Tom Cullen, accompanied by his partner Helen.

The District Governor presented Miguel Gonzalez with the President’s Appreciation Certificate and a Privileged Membership for his outstanding work for the Lions Club and the local community over many years.

The District Governor also presented Peter Wilton, Club Treasurer, with his 20 year Chevron.

District Governor, Sally Marsh thanked the Lions for their service to the community during the past year and congratulated them on their achievements and on gaining new members.

She spoke about the huge impact Lions Clubs have made to help improve the lives of communities in over 200 countries during the last 100 years. Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest Service Organisation with nearly 2,000,000 members.
