Kilgetty and Begelly Community Council are pleased to confirm that its application for funding for the playpark in Kilgetty has been approved by Pembrokeshire County Council.

“The process has taken longer than we thought it would, the feedback during the public consultation in the spring and summer which included, a stand at the Kilgetty Football festival where we spoke to over 100 children, visits to the school and a morning at the Co-Op store, numerous suggestions were made which we have taken on board, and where possible we will make changes to the lay-out and include equipment suitable for all abilities and pre-school children,” said Cllr Jerry Long, Chair of the Community Council

“We would like to thank the community for your patience and understanding during the last two years.

“We would also like to thank the local companies who made donations to the fund and the small group of volunteers who worked on this project and have raised over £12,500. Also to everyone who donated raffle prizes.”

The total project is estimated at £150,000.

At the November 4 meeting of the County Council’s Cabinet, members considered ten applications for funding through the Enhancing Pembrokeshire Large Grant Applications.

The Enhancing Pembrokeshire Grant, launched in 2018 supports local communities; funded via a portion of the charges raised through the second homes premium.

The largest amount was from Kilgetty and Begelly Community Council, asking for £100,000 towards a £179,995 scheme to create a new play park to enhance the village and increase accessibility to the wider communities including the Kingsmoor Common Gypsy Traveller site.

“We have arranged meetings with the contractor to confirm the changes and agree a start date which will be in the New Year,” continued Cllr Long.

“We hope to have the Playpark open weather permitting by May 2025.”
