Pembroke Town Council has just installed a memorial seat by the Cenotaph in Pembroke, to mark this year’s WW1 Centenary.

In the week commencing to November 11, there will be a number of events taking place in and around Pembroke to mark the occasion.

The Mayor of Pembroke, Councillor Linda Brown stated: “We thought it would be fitting to mark with this bench for those who lost their lives in WW1.

“I am also putting on a Veterans Dance at the Town Hall and also a showing of Old what a lovely war at the Town Hall.

“Numerous events will be taking place, including a exhibition in St Marys Church and Pembroke Castle.

“We are also taking part in the ‘Battle Over’ - a Nations Tribute on the 11th, which is a nationwide day of commemorative events marking the centenary of the end of the First World War and paying tribute to the millions killed or wounded in battle, and those on the home front who struggled amidst pain and loss to help ensure freedom survived.

“This will include a Piper playing at the Cenotaph in Pembroke at 6 am and then continuing in the evening with the Last post playing at 6.55 pm to which then a beacon will be lit, and St Marys Church then Ringing out for Peace, finishing at 7.05 pm with A cry for peace around the world,” she added.
