A classroom extension and refurbishment of Tenby Junior Community School has been officially opened. The £1.8 million project has been funded by both Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Assembly Government. It replaces three mobile classrooms with a new linked four classroom wing. In addition, the school hall has been sympathetically extended to match the existing finishes, while internal remodelling and refurbishment has addressed over-crowding with the provision of enlarged classrooms. Heating improvements and refurbishment of kitchen facilities complete the makeover internally. Outside, the play areas have been enlarged and the addition of trees and shrubs has created a practical and pleasing environment The official opening was performed by the chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Clr. Bill Roberts - himself a retired headteacher He told guests and pupils that the council was committed to providing the young people of the county with the best possible learning environment. "This school is a shining example of that undertaking," he added. Since its inception in 1996, the authority has spent over £100 million on building new, and improving existing, school buildings, while more than halving the number of temporary classrooms it inherited before local government reorganisation 11 years ago. The 250 pupils of the school performed items before guests were given guided tours of the new facility.
