Narberth Rotarians have been raising awareness of the World Polio Day campaign with local school pupils.

Three members of Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club - Nigel Towns, Elaine Bradbury and Kenna Crawford recently recognised World Polio Day with a visit to Narberth CP School Assembly -Ysgol Gynradd Arbeth.

Nigel outlined the importance of the day and that Rotary International has been supporting the vaccination of children throughout the World since 1988 in order to eradicate the virus.

There has been significant progress in the elimination of Polio, although the virus is still present in a few countries in the World. Rotary continues to support those countries in the quest for World Wide eradication.

The senior children in year 6 visited each class to paint the children’s “pinkies” (little finger) with purple nail varnish to recreate the action taken when the vaccine is administered. and to recognise the special day.

The Queens Hall in Narberth supported the cause by lighting the premises in purple for a week in support of World Polio Day.
