The unique testing facilities at Pendine's weapons range have been inspected by local MP Simon Hart.

Mr. Hart had a tour of the facility following concerns raised by nearby residents about the level of noise and vibration caused by the regular explosions at the base.

"The site is operated by QinetiQ on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and is capable of carrying out tests that cannot be done anywhere else in Europe," said Mr. Hart.

"I wanted to learn more about the work carried out there because some of their neighbours have contacted me with concerns about noise and vibration from the explosions.

"I had a lengthy discussion with them about this and what they are doing to minimise it as well as an upcoming survey that will look into the issue."

Mr. Hart was shown the equipment and facilities that QinetiQ uses to test and evaluate weapons carried by the army, including equipment currently in use in Afghanistan.

He has also had an update on the noise and vibration survey from Armed Forces Minister Andrew Robathan, who said:

"My officials have been making good progress with QinetiQ in preparing for the noise and vibration study that is due to be conducted at the range and its surroundings later in the year."

The range at Pendine has the UK's only Long Test Track (LTT) which is suitable for high-speed testing work.

"It is one of the foremost test facilities in Europe for the dynamic testing of warheads, precision ground attack systems and missile components," said a QinetiQ spokesman.

"Mr. Hart saw how the team at Pendine provide expertise relevant to the frontline now and projects to support UK and allied nations on the frontline in the future."
